The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has launched its first Environmental Sustainability Plan.

The NMC plans to commit to reducing its environmental impact, build resilience to climate risks and to promote sustainable practices among nurses, nursing associates and midwives.

They aim to focus on making environmental sustainability part of core business activities from estate to travel investment - working to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 and Net Zero Carbon by 2040.

The NMC reach more than 808,000 people, which is great scaling up the impact we make in reducing carbon emissions. The healthcare sector accounts for over four percent of the UK's carbon emissions.

The Environmental Sustainability Plan is a clear guide that maps out the NMC's proposed commitments to cutting carbon emissions within healthcare, steering healthcare professionals through their sustainability journey.
