Helping people to enjoy nature

RubyMoon are the first and only swim & active wear company (and an award winning social enterprise!) to have both positive environmental and social impact: in fact, that was the drive behind RubyMoon- when it started way back in 2010!

They want to empower women to enjoy getting physical outdoors, while at the same time there is an outdoors to enjoy. To ensure they achieve this they have built the UN sustainability goals into their business strategy.

Creating a process for greener textiles

Textiles are the next most harmful industry to our planet after oil – with a high social cost too. RubyMoon works with Healthyseas.org to reclaim waste in the form of fishing nets and plastic waste to help boost our seas’ biodiversity.

Due to using recycled materials as much as possible RubyMoon products are certified for 42% less carbon emissions than similar products on the market.

ECONYL® nylon yarn from used fishing nets and other regenerated material is used in for its quality swimwear fabrics. The company is also a committed partner to healthyseas.org to collect drifting or ‘ghost’ nets. Drifting nets entangle & kill seals, turtles, sea mammals and fish.

Fact: ghost nets make up 48% of the waste deposited at the great Pacific Garbage Patch.

As well as sourcing sustainable fabrics RubyMoon use waste reducing printing and dying techniques, and certified Oekotex and vegan-meaning no harmful chemicals are used to further minimise any impact on the environment.

Giving back to generate more positive change

100% of RubyMoon net profits are used to provide micro credit loans to women in developing countries get entrepreneurial ideas off the ground. Women are the change makers in developing societies: when women are empowered to be able to hold assets or gain incomes, family money is more likely to be spent on nutrition, medicine, housing and consequently children are happier and healthier.

To date they have helped over 600 women in 13 countries and their families find a way out of poverty and give them a chance to plan meaningful, secure lives and as a personal touch, the collection pieces are named after the women in whom the social enterprise have invested.
