Electric cars can be easier to access at SCFT

Driving an electric car is a great way to slash your carbon footprint and improve local air quality. With petrol and diesel cars soon to become a thing of the past, get ahead of the curve and get yourself an electric car through SCFT’s lease car salary sacrifice scheme.
Travel Smarter September
Throughout this month we are promoting ways that we can all make more sustainable choices when travelling. Driving an electric vehicle is a great way to travel by car with less carbon emissions and impact on air quality and comes with a host of benefits, such as:
- Lower running and maintenance costs
- Exemptions from road tax and congestion charges and ultra-low emission zones
- Priority parking in public spaces
- Reduced noise pollution
- Better driving experience; with more responsive acceleration and regenerative breaking as well as improved handling, comfort and safety due to a low centre of gravity.
The typical electric vehicle today will give a typical range of over 200 miles, which will cost £8-12 in electricity costs if charged at home, much cheaper than a typical full tank of petrol or diesel.
The average person in the UK drives around 20 miles a day, meaning one full charge could last up to 10 days.
As a Trust we are committed to ensuring at least 80% of our fleet vehicles are electric by 2025/26; this is set out in our Green Plan as this will help us reach our Net Zero Carbon target.
Support at SCFT
At SCFT, our Travel Bureau team offer a salary sacrifice scheme that allows staff to lease an electric vehicle for both business and private use over a fixed three-year period. The scheme comes including all fully comprehensive insurance, road tax (if applicable), maintenance/servicing and breakdown cover. It is a great way to make e-vehicles more accessible for everyone.
Through the scheme you give up part of your before-tax salary in return for the vehicle during the lease period, meaning your overall pay will be lower, and you’d pay a reduced rate of tax and national insurance.
For more information on the scheme see the lease car section of The Pulse, where you’ll find the information pack, application form & driver’s mandate. Also, feel free to get in touch with the Fleet Office team at SC-TR.TransportAdmin@nhs.net.
