On Your Feet Britain - a day to celebrate movement

25th April is On Your Feet Britain Day, a day created to support people in physical wellbeing at work.

The aim of the day is to get people who may be more stationary to deliberately bring more movement into their day. Studies show that getting up and moving around more can help reduce risks of ill health in the future; this aligns with our Sustainable Healthcare Principles, specifically Healthier Lives.

Our Healthier Lives Sustainable Healthcare Principle aims to ensure we are making use of every opportunity to help people to be well, to minimise preventable ill-health, health inequalities and unnecessary treatment, and to support independence and wellbeing.

Health benefits of moving around more include:

  • Better physical and mental health.
  • Increased motivation.
  • Improved concentration.

You can build more movement into your day with some easy changes such as:

  • Stand during phone calls.
  • Stand and take a break from your computer every 30 minutes.
  • Use the stairs more often.
  • Arrange standing or walking meetings with colleagues.
  • Eat your lunch away from your desk, maybe even pop outside.
  • Walk to a colleague's desk instead of phoning or emailing them.
  • Stand at the back of the room during presentation.

You can find out more about On Your Feet Britain day on the website.

Supporting Healthier Lives is just one way we are working towards our Net Zero Carbon target.
