30 January 2018
By Hayley Carmichael
Lunch and Learn sessions continue to happen each month throughout 2018.
What is a lunch and learn session?
Lunch & Learn sessions are free to all staff and offer information and guidance on ways to improve our well-being, look after our environment and maybe save some money too.
Where each session is held depends on the availability the speakers.
Come along with a packed lunch and enjoy learning new things, and meeting new people!
This month we have two sessions to offer at Brighton General and one at Zachary Merton.
Tuesday 6th Feb there is a lunch & learn in support of LGBT History Month.
SCFT’s LGBT+ Staff Network will be presenting a brief history on the treatment of LGBT+ people by healthcare providers, from historic ‘cure’ therapies to current attempts to improve access and health outcomes. When LGBT people continue to experience poorer health outcomes compared to non-LGBT people, the question will be asked whether more needs to be done to improve the healthcare experience of LGBT patients
Come along to listen to Jess Dare, a Psychological Therapist at SCFT talk about the Medical Treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people in the UK
Friday 9th Feb we have a lunch & learn session with the cycle and road safety team from Brighton and Hove Council. They will talk about how we can cycle more safely on the roads, and how to get the most from cycling around the city whether for work or leisure.
Both sessions will take place in the Arundel Boardroom, 1st floor of BGH at 12pm till 12.45pm.
Monday 12th February we have a lunch and learn session with Rebecca Rees, a qualified Alexander Technique practitioner.
If problems with back pain , neck pain, and feeling stressed and anxious are part of your daily life come along and discover how learning the Alexander Technique gives you simple practical self-help skills that can bring welcome relief and change your life!
This takes place in the dining room of Zachary Merton hospital, from 12 to 12.45pm.
In March we are delighted to have the Fairtrade Foundation come in to speak to us about why choosing Fairtrade is a healthy choice.
This supports FairTrade fortnight which starts at the end of February.
Come to the Arundel Boardroom at Brighton General on Friday 9th March for 12pm. Finishes 12.45pm.
This month we have a nurse for NHS England coming to Bicentennial House in Chichester to talk about the ways that we can bring physical exercise into the everyday, as well as exploring the benefits of leading a more active life.
Karen will be speaking in the training rooms on the 3rd floor of Bicentennial House, on Thursday 26th April from 12 to 12.45pm.
In May we are organising Wellbeing@Work Festival again after the success of last year.
To tie in with all things wellbeing, our May lunch and learn is with Michele Saunders who is a qualified UK Athletics Coach in Running Fitness. She will be talking about how to get started with running, how to get involved with local running clubs and ways to build running into your week.
It takes places on 14th May in the Governance Room at Brighton General Hospital, which is in B Block. The time is 12 to 12.45pm.
